UPSTAGE HISTORY

ORIGIN
June 30, 1995 at 11 a.m., the first Upstage program aired on CKUT-FM in Montréal.

The term “upstage” in theatre refers to the area at the back of the stage, behind the action in front. Similarly, Upstage offers an opportunity to those productions in the background; amateur, community, student, experimental, avantgarde. In other words, we give a voice to those in the theatre community that might otherwise not be heard.

Upstage explores all aspects of the world of theatre. From stage elements as lighting and set design to panel discussions, conversations with actors, directors and playwrights.
By making theatre more accessible to those who are not regular theatregoers, we hope to increase audience interest, particularly for lesser known productions.
